Black Acid

by Shcuro

/
  • Record/Vinyl + Digital Album

Based in the suburbs of Lisbon, the newly-founded label Sombra draws inspiration from the raw, hypnotic images that surround their headquarters. Through the eyes of this imprint, the beauty of decay is as real as the more polished side of reality. And that darkness is best soundtracked by techno.

Sombra’s first offering is a debut release that will hit stores worldwide in early September. It includes “Black Acid” by the head honcho Shcuro, one of Portugal’s most promising talents, plus remixes by established dancefloor slayers like Paul Mac (UK), Myler (Ireland) and Larix (Poland).

The title track “Black Acid” is a dark techno roller brought to life by a resonating acid line, gritty noises and longinque reverbs. Veteran Paul Mac (Stimulus & Tactical / Killa Productions) spikes it to an hypnotic level via what feels like a locked groove, driven by tense chords and echoing bursts of claps, while Ireland’s Myler (Fifth Wall / Pennyroyal / Mindcut) takes the track to a rave-infused breakbeat territory, punctuated by the original’s signature noises and pitched-down vocals. The hard-hitting four-tracker closes with Larix’s (Stereophonic Productions / Naked Lunch / Elektrax) reinterpretation, a slo-mo exercise that exalts the ambient quality of the original, with never-ending pads and subtle underlying noises that seem to drive us back to reality after an intense journey.
